Used Smith & Wesson U.S. Model 1917 Revolver – .45 Colt Conversion, U.S. Property Marked

This Smith & Wesson U.S. Model 1917 is a World War I-era military revolver built on the large N-frame and originally chambered for .45 ACP. It features a six-shot swing-out cylinder, approximately 5.5-inch barrel, fixed sights, double-action/single-action operation and smooth walnut military-style stocks. The barrel is prominently marked “United States Property,” while the butt is marked “U.S. Army Model 1917” with serial number 119190.

The cylinder chambers have been bored through to accept the longer .45 Colt cartridge. This was a known period modification performed on some surplus Model 1917 revolvers, but it changes the revolver from its original military .45 ACP configuration. The original Model 1917 was designed around .45 ACP ammunition used with half-moon clips and was later commonly used with .45 Auto Rim ammunition. 

This example remains in good overall condition with visible finish wear, scattered scratches and handling marks consistent with its age and military use. The walnut stocks show wear and small chips around the edges, while the bore appears to show age-related frosting or wear.
